We chat to Amber about the current treatment duo on everyone's radar - BBL+Moxi, and as you can see from the results - your best skin ever awaits you and your wedding photos!
How long have you been working with BBL + Moxi?
I came across these devices when a friend of mine purchased them for her cosmetic clinic. The before and after photos had me sold from that moment! That was over 18 months ago and I have had it for almost a year now.
How far in advance would you advise brides to start skin treatments with you?
Depending on what the bride would like to achieve before the day. We suggest 1-3 sessions, spaced at around 6 weeks apart. Ultimately, we would like to have an 8 week downtime before the wedding too, to prevent any breakouts or complications before the big day. So perhaps 10-12 month period.
Can you tell us the difference between BBL & Moxi - they seem to be spoken about mainly as a pair?
We speak about the devices together as the combined treatment has so many benefits. BBL is a light device (the latest IPL technology). It treats browns and reds in the skin. So this would be pigmentation, sun damage, sun spots, some freckles as well as broken capillaries and diffuse redness (also rosacea). There was an incredible study done through Stanford University, over 10 years with the Sciton BBL that produced some amazing evidence that if you have 2 or more BBLs per year, that the collagen it produces assists you to appear 10 years younger. This was produced through skin biopsy and photographs. Tell me one person who is not interested in that before a wedding day? Moxi is non ablative fractionated laser. This mouthful is basically a fancy way of explaining how the laser works. It doesn’t break the skin, it just denatures the area being treated, which basically means you get a low downtime healing phase compared to a fully ablative laser. The mechanism is similar to microneedling/Dermapen but is effectively doing more work in one session. Together they are pure gentle resurfacing magic.
Is it essential to do BBL & Moxi at the same time or can they be done separately?
We can either do them together or apart. When booked in combination, you save a bit on money in doing so.
On average how many treatments are required to deliver the best results?
We suggest 1-3 sessions. As a provider, I will always set out to produce the best results even in one session but the benefits of several are quite remarkable.
How long does a treatment take?
A full face BBL and Moxi on the face take an hour and a half. More or less depending on the surface area and which devices we choose to use
Is there any prep required that would help maximise results?
To already be on active skincare will always benefit you. Better skincare, means recovery will be quicker and easier
Is there much of a downtime process?
For BBL there is very little downtime. Perhaps a little swelling under the eyes the next day, and the pigmentation will be darker for several days. Moxi however is around a 5 day downtime. To have a fully ablative laser treatment, you are looking at a 30-60 day window, so this is a piece of cake.
Once a treatment course is complete, how long are the results expected to last for?
Most results will be long lasting. We have to keep in mind that latent sun damage will come up from years ago and any further sun exposure will risk it bouncing back. If you keep religious with SPF 50+ and be sun smart, then after those initial treatments, we recommend an annual session (or more of course if you fancy) to maintain all the hard work we have done.
Is there a specific type of skincare regime required post treatment?
I recommend a simple skincare routine, usually depending on budget. I am a firm believer in using simple cleanser and moisturiser (like CeraVe) and then spending more on a target serum for your particular skin type and of course a reliable sunscreen.
Are BBL+Moxi suitable for all skin types and ages?
They are suitable for any age. BBL is not recommended for women with melasma, or hormonal pigmentation. We would suggest Moxi with some BioRePeel TCA peels to give great results. A consultation is recommended and we have a questionnaire that can help us work out what skin type you have and a suggest a treatment plan.
So - ideal for brides looking for their best ever skin?
Absolutely! Highly recommend - your skin will have miles more clarity, texture will be improved ten fold and makeup will not only apply like a dream but have increased longevity too.
